LumaClaims

Medicare Claims Analytics Platform Built for Large-Scale Data

Macromodule helped LumaClaims turn extensive Medicare Part B claims data into a web-based analytics product with interactive filtering, dashboards, and a cloud data foundation.

Project Overview

LumaClaims helps healthcare innovators explore Medicare Part B activity through interactive dashboards and regularly refreshed data. Its product needed to make a very large claims dataset useful to people making market, product, and payer-strategy decisions. Macromodule partnered with the LumaClaims team to build the data and application layers, using a cloud analytics foundation and phased releases so the client could validate the product as it developed.

Client Requirements

01

Claims Data at Scale

Organize a large Medicare Part B dataset for repeated analysis without requiring users to handle raw source files.

02

Interactive Exploration

Let users filter, compare, and visualize the data in a web-based dashboard.

03

Current Reporting Cycles

Support regular data updates so analyses reflect newly available claims periods.

04

Controlled Product Access

Give authorized users a reliable path into the dashboards and their available views.

Key Challenges

Dataset Volume

Make queries practical across billions of claims records.

Data Modeling

Structure claims and reference data so filters return consistent results.

Analytical Performance

Keep common dashboard interactions responsive while controlling cloud query costs.

Usable Visualizations

Turn complex dimensions and measures into views that users can interpret.

Incremental Delivery

Release useful capabilities in phases while data and product requirements evolve.

Key Market Insights

Data Freshness Matters
Teams need to understand changes as new claims data becomes available.
Raw Data Needs Context
A large dataset is more useful when it can be filtered by meaningful dimensions.
Analysts Need Flexibility
Interactive dashboards let users test a question instead of waiting for a fixed report.
Trust Depends on Consistency
Clear definitions, repeatable data preparation, and understandable views support better decisions.

Solution Overview

Macromodule developed the foundations of a web-based Medicare claims analytics product. The work brought together large-scale data preparation, BigQuery-backed analysis, application interfaces, and interactive dashboard views. Delivery was split into milestones so the client could use each phase, assess the results, and refine the next set of filters and visualizations.

  • Claims Data Foundation
  • BigQuery Analytics Layer
  • Application Services
  • Interactive Dashboard
  • Data Update Workflow

BigQuery and Python are supported by the public project descriptions and the client's review. Internal project context mentions GCP Cloud Storage, Parquet, FastAPI, Panel, and Cloud Run, while a public review describes a ShadCN frontend. These may describe different layers or phases. Confirm the current deployed architecture before naming frontend framework(s) or publishing a detailed stack diagram.

System Architecture

Claims Data Foundation

Store and prepare large claims datasets for repeatable analytical workloads.

BigQuery Analytics Layer

Run filtered queries and power aggregate results for dashboard views.

Application Services

Connect access controls, query logic, and dashboard functionality through the product backend.

Interactive Dashboard

Give users filterable views, charts, and detailed exploration paths in the web application.

Data Update Workflow

Prepare and load newly available source data as part of the product's reporting cycle.

Engineering Approach

  • Data modeling: Map source and reference data to the filters and measures the dashboard needs. Data modeling: Map source and reference data to the filters and measures the dashboard needs.
